2nd Annual Youth Event for Folk@Canowindra … 27th July

It is a great pleasure to announce another youth event for folk@canowindra, and to invite young people from across the region to perform accoustic music or poetry this Sunday 27th July.  This will be held from 4-6pm at taste Canowindra (Ferguson St).  The event is family friendly, entry is by donation, and there is delicious food & drink available at the venue.  Last year’s event was a great opportunity for the singers and players who came and had the chance to share their music in front of a warm and friendly audience.   This is such an important part of developing as a young performer, and is a great opportunity to meet other like-minded people, and hear what they are doing as well.

The feature act will be Gabrielle Flanagan (15) from Wellington and Josh Maynard (16) from Cowra, who have been performing together for about six months, and in such a short time have entertained people in a range of venues across the Central West.

These two young artists met in the semi finals of Junior Entertainers where they both advanced to the Finals. Both are successful performers in their own right and also perform separately.  Josh and Gabrielle are both winners and place setters in a range of music competitions, including the Henry Lawson Busking Competition (Josh 2013, Gabrielle 2014), NSW Junior Entertainers, Parkes Country Music, M&M Battle Of The Voices and the Canowindra Balloon Festival. Regulars to the Cow & Calf in Wellington and Taste Canowindra, both performers would like to make music their career and many great local venues are helping them achieve this.  They perform a range of genres from Folk to Rock. Josh’s influences are Shane Howard, Missy Higgins and John Butler. Gabrielle’s influences include artists like Taylor Swift, John Mayer and Ed Sheeran.

If you are interested in performing, please contact Nerida Cuddy (0429 048 603) before the day to secure an open mic spot.  Everyone is welcome to come and listen: to encourage the next generation of musicians and poets in our region, and to enjoy the considerable talents of Gabrielle and Josh.
