Folk @ Canowindra … 26 January 2014

You are invited to mellow out on Australia Day afternoon (4-6:15) with some great live music at the first “folk@canowindra” event for the year!  We will be welcoming Wilis, an up-and-coming singer/songwriter from rural Victoria, as our feature act.  Wilis’ first recorded song, “Goodbye”, from his newly released EP, was received very well on Triple J Unearthed:
“This is a phenomenal find from Unearthed High 2013. Beautifully written little folk tune that strides along with accomplished playing and some really stirring harmonies.”

(Dave Ruby Howe, triple j)

Wilis grew up listening to all kinds of classic folk musicians from Bob Dylan and Paul Kelly to Neil Young and Simon and Garfunkel. Teaching himself guitar was the first step which he took at the age of nine. Singing and various other instruments came around the ages 15-17. Wilis’ music is very folk-inspired with hints of modern folk artists such as Fleet Foxes, Johnny Flynn, The Paper Kites and Angus Stone. ( )

As usual there will be an open mic for poetry and accoustic music, and refreshments are available at the venue, Taste Canowindra, Ferguson St.  All enquiries: Nerida Cuddy, 0429 048 603.

Swan Hill Summer Sessions … 27 Jan – 7 Feb

Muster 2013 … so I send you!

Here it is folks! A young family and a bunch of students in suburban Australia think through what Jesus meant when he said, “As the Father sent me, so I send you.”
Made by Cornerstone Community in Newcastle, as the second ‘session’ at our recent Muster 2013 in Dubbo. Feel free to share with friends or use for discussion!
