Folk@canowindra had a great start to the year in January with Hannah Sunderland, some great open mic acts, a great audience and even our first crowd sing-along! We might be seeing some more of this (optional!) audience participation throughout the year. Our next gathering will be this coming Sunday, 24th February, at ‘taste Canowindra’ (Ferguson St) from 4-6pm. The venue is family friendly (a great outdoor play area) with good food, cuppas & wine available. Entry is free, with a donation box for the feature act.
This month the club’s founder, Nerida Cuddy, will be the feature act; in preparation for an upcoming live recording that she will be doing in Melbourne next month. Nerida has been a singer/songwriter for 20 years, and draws on her broad experiences of life, people and the Australian landscape in her writing. Her songs have been short-listed several times in the Australian Songwriters Competition, and this up-coming Cd will be the fourth Nerida has produced. She has been described as “a Central West Mary Black”; a “prolific songwriter”, and “a composer & musician with not only an ear for music, but a social conscience and a sense of humour”(ABC Central West). This show promises to stimulate laughter, reflection, empathy, maybe even a tear or two, as Nerida shares stories and songs that delve into our experiences of life, spirit and relationships.
There will be an open mike for any accoustic musicians or poets – please contact Nerida (0429 048 603) for any enquiries or to participate.
